GENERAL

  • Fastest turnaround occurs with print ready files such as PDF, EPS, or multi-page documents
  • A colour proof is preferred to ensure a more predictable outcome
  • For small format full bleed outputs, make sure your document has an extra 1/8" on each side
  • Make sure your PDF files have the fonts embedded, and are at print resolution (instead of the default which is at computer monitor resolution)
  • Documents that combine bitmap and vector data should be submitted as PDF (fonts embedded) or EPS (fonts converted to curves) formats
DIGITAL COLOR CHECKLIST:
  • Fonts used in file
  • Graphics used in file
  • Black and white sample
  • Due time needed
  • Paper stock needed
  • Output size needed
  • Quantity needed

Our inkjet printers are CMYK devices and cannot guarantee exact Pantone matching. If color is critical, we can provide you with sample color swatches of variations on the required colors. This will allow you to choose the "best match".

SCANNING & FILE PREPARATION

Large Format Colour - scan images to 100 ppi (pixels per inch) at final size

Small Format Colour - scan images to 200 ppi (maximum 300 ppi) at full size

Fonts

  • If you are unable to send a Postscript "Print Ready" file (PS, EPS, PDF or PRN) that includes the fonts you used in your application, you should send the proper fonts that you used. It sometimes occurs that two fonts with the same name can be from two different manufacturers. If TRUETYPE fonts are used in your document and then output with TYPE1 fonts, the text flow in your publication may vary from your original. Microsoft Windows : TRUETYPE fonts are the most commonly used fonts in MS Windows, and can be accessed through the FONTS icon in Control Panel.
  • When using TYPE1 fonts with MS Windows you will require font management software (Adobe Type Manager, Extensis Suitcase) TRUETYPE font management is built into Windows. When sending TYPE1 fonts, make sure to send the appropriate PFM and PFB files.
  • When possible, convert fonts or artwork to curves. (This can be important where character and line spacing are very crucial. However, in some cases when converting to vector artwork the file sizes are too large and processing time becomes too lengthy).
  • Fonts can consist of two parts: a screen font and a printer font. A screen font is for monitor display within your application software, and a printer font is used by the RIP (raster image processor) to interpret the raster image from your application software.
